I'm Sophia Hee Suet Er. I’m currently a Product Designer (UI/UX).
Over the past 8 years, I've worked in various areas of digital design, including motion design, graphic design, animation directing, and marketing. I'm proud to have worn many hats. Now, I'm embarking on my new journey, the UI/UX journey.
Last year September, my previous company closed its Singapore division, prompting me to reflect on my future. My interest in human behavior and consumer psychology led me to delve into UI/UX, and after four months of self-study, gaining a Google UX Design Professional Certificate, and portfolio building, I confirmed my passion for this field and hope to pursue it as a career.
I'm grateful for the 8 years of work experience that have shaped who I am today. Like nourishing soil, my past experiences have fed my growth, enabling me to anchor myself like a flower and unfurl towards the sky. Here is what I can bring to the table:
When facing challenges in a project, I focus on finding solutions rather than complaining. Completing tasks from start to finish is essential to turn the impossible into possible.
Being humble and continuously learning helps me to improve and stay relevant in the industry. I avoid spending a long time mastering software and techniques before starting to work; instead, I learn while doing so that I can handle techniques faster. For learning new software, I have a step-by-step approach.
I have been involved in the production of over 40 visual projects of various styles. I can adapt to different visual styles in a short time. Besides, my experience in animation allows me to efficiently complete prototyping and micro animation, enhancing product interactivity.
When I was directing the series, I was also responsible for outsourcing to freelancers and communicating with them. Because of my experience in outsourcing, I am skilled at breaking down all visual elements and standardizing the characteristics and parameters of each element. I systematize and document this information into style guide to facilitate team and freelancers access. With these styles guide and documents, we can produce products of the same quality and style.
Communication ensures that everyone is on the same page. During discussions, I focus on identifying the root cause of the current issue and proposing corresponding solutions. Sometimes, users or customers may not directly communicate the reasons behind their actions, or they may express themselves in indirect ways. In such cases, I rely on observation and understanding their motivations to provide effective solutions.
Working in the high-pressure and fast-paced animation industry has honed my resilience and adaptability. Throughout my eight years of work experience, I've encountered numerous situations requiring last-minute completion or major adjustments. I believe maintaining a calm mindset is crucial for effectively addressing challenges. Additionally, I've made it a habit to exercise weekly to keep a clear mind.
I enjoy good coffee and visiting different cafes to experience their unique styles. Besides, I also love hiking and traveling. I like chatting with locals to learn about their culture and way of life.
Animation has also played a significant role in my life journey. I am passionate about storytelling for children and have worked on 27 animated movies. In my spare time, I create animated shorts whenever inspiration strikes. Feel free to check out my animation work!
